There’s an old joke that everyone always complains about the weather but nobody ever does anything about it.  It is one of my favorites partly because it is based on the presumption that anyone can do anything about the weather.  Of course, none of us can—the phrase, “It is what it is” is very appropriate for describing the weather—but we often speak about it as if we could.  Weather forecasts “call” for the temperature to be warm or cool or the day to be dry or wet as if making a request.  Once we have heard the forecast, we say that the weather is “supposed to be” what we have read.  We are disappointed in the weather when it does not perform as it ought to.

The weather is supposed to be unseasonably warm this weekend and I sincerely hope that it lives up to this expectation.  We’d like to start the New Year off tomorrow with an afternoon hike.  Happy New Year!
